Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at KGI Securities, published a research notice to investors today. In the report he foretells about the second-generation Apple Watch 2 that is expected to launch in the later part of 2016. The watch will feature a faster TSMC-built CPU, barometer, Global Positioning System, larger capacity battery and improved waterproof technology.
Mr.Kuo declared that the second-generation watch will come with the same screen sizes and body thickness as of the existing Apple Watches. But it will be having a thinner display technology. Also it was rumoured that the new watch will feature a Face Time camera and expanded Wi-Fi technology but the KGI analyst did not confirm that. Furthermore, according to some rumors the new watch will feature cellular connectivity but Kuo assumes the support for LTE (Long Term Evolution) won’t evolve until the next year.
The KGI analyst also reported that the upgraded first-generation watches of Apple will be released in the later part of this year having same CPU and waterproof upgrades but unlike the second-generation watches they won’t feature GPS and barometer technologies. He further predicts another price cut for Apple Watch after the launch of the newer models. However, as far as the prospective shipments of 2017 are concerned, he stays conservative.
Moreover, Kua added, from 2018 to 2020 the shipment of Apple Watches may increase even more, awaiting significant form factor modifications, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approvals supporting more medical applications and commercialization of 5G network.
The iPhone and Apple Watch will be sold simultaneously by Apple Inc., thus the upgraded models of each product will smoothly launch one after the other. Rumors are going around that the new smartphones iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are going to launch in September, with pre-orders probably starting on 9th of September. Therefore, the upgraded Apple Watch 1 and the second-generation Apple Watch 2 may also be rolled out next month.
