Everyone is aware of the fact that, the next iPhone is going to be the next big thing (I guess this is the answer, Fortune). Next year will mark the tenth anniversary of the iPhone.
That’s the reason, why, Apple went with minimal changes to the iPhone this year. We have all heard from the rumours till now that the body of the iPhone, the structure, the display and many more things will be drastically different compared to the previous generations.
However, today macrumours found an article in The Korea Economic Daily which says that Apple is working along with LG to create a new dual camera system that will add 3D capability to the camera. The company is planning on taking the dual camera system it unveiled this year with the iPhone 7 Plus to the next level with the iPhone 8 or whatever it’s going to be called.
According to the article, Apple will use the “LG Innotek” dual lens. The articles doesn’t shed light on heavy details. However, the article succeeds in mentioning the fact that Apple used the 3D technologies created by an Israeli startup “LinX” in the iPhone 7.
According to the source, as noted by macrumours : “Apple is now studying how to apply its 3D camera technology into LG Innotek’s smartphone camera,” adding, “Since LG Innotek also has its own 3D camera and related technologies, such joint efforts will likely to bear fruit sometime within next year.”
The article gives us a sneak peek at the next iPhone even though it doesn’t go much into the details. All we do is speculate. It’s unclear what kind of 3D imaging features the phone will have.
If we look at the past, Apple filed for many patents for biometric and facial recongintion systems. The new camera’s that Apple is creating in collaboration with LG, might also be used for facial recognition. It’s pure speculation, also it’s not totally impossible.
